To use new ideas to preserve the heritage of the old buildings and turn them into a vibrant place that generates creativity and innovation and where people will live, work, produce and participate. Finding this balance in an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable way is a unique challenge.
On PHOENIX West, Dutch-Canadian urban developer Walas is planning the urban development of the blast furnace, the former switch house 101 and construction site13, located to the west of the blast furnace. In switch house 101, a "mixed use area" is being created that will provide space for innovators and inventors, for a maker space as an urban laboratory of new ideas, for startups and accelerators, for arts and crafts, cultural and social functions, for gastronomy, and for events and meetings. A World Innovation Centre is being created on construction site 13, where national and international companies dedicated to sustainability issues will find space for their innovation groups. The blast furnace will be the connecting link between the sites and provide a variety of meeting points with places to stay.
